BEFORE NIGHT FALL PART 1

BEFORE NIGHT FALL PART 1

John 9v1-4 ‘As Jesus went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, Rabbi who sinned this man or his parents, that he was born blind?
Jesus answered ‘neither this man nor his parent sinned, but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of Him who sent me. Night is coming when no man can work while I am in the world I am the light of the world’.
Let us also look at Rev 12v12 ‘therefore rejoice you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the habitant of the earth and the sea because the devil has gone down to you. Filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short. Lastly psalm 90v12 ‘Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our heart unto wisdom’.
If you ask me, I will tell you that it is five minutes to 12; 11:55. Very soon it will be 12 and then night will fall! It is high time that pilgrims should come to term of the briefness of time. The bible captured the missionary work of Jesus; as he went along, here says they saw a man blind from birth. How often do we have blind in our midst who have fail to understand the briefness of the time we are in ‘who fail to redeem the time in this evil days’. His disciples ask Him, could sin be the cause of his blindness? Though it might be a right question but at the wrong footing; Jesus responds, inform how out of context they are. They are out of the main issue which is to use issues and circumstances of life to manifest God’s Glory. Most often, we blame people over certain things and situations, instead of using such occasion to manifest the glory of God. ‘For the whole creation wait in agony and eagerly for the manifestation of children of God’. Rom 8v19.
Is high time we should stop blaming our leaders, now is the time for the children of the Kingdom, to showcase God’s glory unto men and not to join the world to ask ‘ whose sin resulted to these deteriorating state of the economy, relationship, health issues etc. As victorious saint of the Lord our prayer should be ‘Lord let thy Kingdom come’ Yes this happened so that the work of God might be display’… You may say, man of God, what of this one, could this be the handwork of God that this bad situation come to be. Abraham could have ask that question after waiting on God’s promises for so many years, David after been anointed King of Israel had to pass wilderness journey for 15years, likewise Joseph who waiting for a decade after God gave him a dream. Israel a nation of covenant stayed in a foreign land as slave for 430 years. Sometimes we do not need to understand God, because His ways are higher than ours. All we have to do is to follow Him in faith. All the patriarchs of old in Heb 11 have one testimony in their walk with God: FAITH! Without which no one can pleased God!  So I say to you what the Lord says ‘ this happened that the work of God, might be display in you’. So cast off every doubt, fear and unbelief and look unto Jesus who is ever faithful to manifest His glory through you in this quest challenging and perilous time of life!
Keep a time with us for the second sere of this sermon. God bless you!

THE CALL TO OBEDIENCE: LEARNING FROM PETER.

THE CALL TO OBEDIENCE: LEARNING FROM PETER.
Our text is taking from Luke 5v4-5 ‘when he has finished speaking, he said to Simon, put out into deep water and let down the nets for a catch.  Simon answered “Master, we have worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the net.”
From the above text is an interaction or interface between the Lord and a man named Peter, whose occupation was fishing. The Lord has a need for a boat, to aid him in preaching the gospel, because the crowd was so much. So there is need to move further away from the sea-shore into the water. Reading from verse 1, we discovered that there are two boat, but why Peter’s?  Jesus who knows the end from the beginning knows whose heart that will yield to his calling. Verse 3 says ‘He got into one of the boat belonging to Simon that is grace. This is to tell us that until grace found one there is no ability to obey, or rather your obedience is like a filthy sacrifice before God!
Below are the lessons we can learn.
1.       There must be a willing heart. God is only interested to those whose hearts are willing to obey. From the onset the Lord discovered the willingness of Simon to partner in service. Remember, there are two boats. It is only when we are willing that our obedience to God will be acceptance, enabling to receive the reward that goes with obedience. From time immemorial men that God called to ministry are people whose hearts are willing to obey. Isaiah 1:19. Says if we are willing…
2.       There is a need. God does not call men into obedience if there is no need, for He is not a time waster. In this case there is a need, for the crowd was so much and there is need to preach the gospel. Thank God for a man like Peter who made himself available for the Master’s use. 2Tim2:21.
3.       Love and respect for his word. Peter had love and respect for the Master and his word. In call for obedience we must have love and respect for whom we believe. “…but at your word…”
4.       Trust. Is one thing to love someone is another thing to trust him. Peter trusted the infallibility of the master. “Master we have labor all night… but at your word…”
5.       Must lay down. It is true we may have some experiences; past or present, why it might not work, the report of the doctor, our qualification, culture and other imagination might state the reality..yes “we might have toy all night, without a caught, but like Peter we must learn how to respond and said before him “….at your word I will lay down the net”.

THE HEAVENLY RACE

THE HEAVENLY RACE
HEBREW 12V1-2 ‘ So then, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us and let us with endurance the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising shame, and has sat down at the throne of God’ Halleluiah!
Christianity is a race, from the moment one gave his life to the Lord Jesus at redemption alter, a race has been set before him! ‘Do you not know that in a race all runners run…’ All runners; that is all who have been called into salvation run. So every believer has been made a runner and Jesus who is the pioneer is he who has called and only he knows those who are running within the track. ‘The Lord knows those who are his…’ 2Tim 2v19. All others are only audience; even your pastor is among the audience and cannot determine the price at the end of the race!
We are going to base our discussion from Hebrew 12v1-2 and some other verses of the scripture. We pray that the Lord will grant us the wisdom to excel.
Lessons to draw from the scripture on heavenly race.
1.      The race is one of faith. ‘… we have so great cloud of witnesses surrounding us’ to get a clearer picture of these cloud of witnesses, we see Hebrew 11 which shows the patrons of faith of which Abraham the father of faith was among. ‘  by faith Abraham when he was called, obeyed in going out into a place he was destined to receive as an inheritance; he went out, although not knowing where he was going. Faith is the cardinal point of our heavenly race. This is the race we have been called into by the author and finisher of our faith. Without faith, it is impossible to pleased God, if we come to God we must believe that He is. Our faith must be immovable even admits of movable phases of life, for we must put on the shield of faith so as to live victoriously before this wicked and degenerating world. We must know also that faith cometh by the word of God that is able to keep us standing admist the entreaties and challenges of life.
2.      …put off every weight. ‘let us put off every weight’ here it say ‘let us…’ not let God. Look at other scripture: Ephesians 4v22-25. There is a command for the Lord’s pilgrims to ‘ put off ‘ and ‘ put on ‘. Here the scripture charge us to ‘put off every weight’ what then are these weight? As we see in Ephesians 4v22. It says ‘ put off concerning the former conversation…’ the blind Bartimaeus lay aside his garment to enable him come to Jesus( mark 10v50). ‘… Casting away his garment rose and came to Jesus’. These weights are our pride, doctrine, achievement as well as our imagination, though they may not be sins but they actually hinders. Here the Lord is commanding us to put them off and depend on him and his word for us to run this race to a glorious end!
3.      The sins that entangles: …’ lay aside… the sin that so easily entangles us’ we are in the world and we are not immune from temptations and other forms of distraction. Gal 5v19-21, made mention of the works of the flesh. ‘now the works of the flesh are evident which are adultery, fornication, uncleanness…envy and the like of which I told you now and in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God’. brethren these are sins that can easily entangles, especially the sins of the heart like lust, envy, anger and unforgiveness. Let us guide against these as we run the race that is set before us.
4.      …Run with patient: ‘… let us run with patient the race that is set before us’ Patient is one of the cardinal point in our Christian faith. We have testimonies as we grow in years in our Christian faith. The extend of your blessings and your understanding of God is determine with the level of your patient with Him. Patient is known as longsuffering, perseverance, endurance is one of the fruit of the Spirit. Gal 5v22. James 5v7-11 stated the need to be patient until the Lord’s coming. Stating an example of patient is our patriarch: Job who was patient even in the face of suffering. Other patriarchs of old were able to walk faithfully with God through their patient with Him. Let us not be deceived with quick syndrome gospel ravaging the body of Christ today! ‘…you too be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near’.
5.      Looking unto Jesus: ‘…looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith’. He is the centre piece of our Christian faith. He is our example, our Lord and therefore we should walk and depend on Him, if we must have a glorious end. John 15:1-5. The Lord admonishes His faithful to abide in Him. ‘…abide in Me and I in you … he who abides in Me and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for without Me you can do nothing’. Believers should know and appreciate the fact that the race we run is the race where we hold unto Jesus as the ultimate price of our faith! He is our ultimate reason and focus, so therefore we should do away with every form of deviation and distraction, in other to avoid sinking into the quagmire of storms and boisterous wind of life. Peter was an example of Christ followers who out of fear and distraction began to sink when he ceased from looking unto ‘the author and finisher of his faith’ ‘… when Peter had come… he walked on the water to go to Jesus, but when he saw…’ what do you see? as you journey in life, instead of seeing Jesus, many believers are seeing circumstances and impossibilities. Moses send 12 spies each from the 12 tribe of Israel. Only two came back with good report while the other ten came back with evil report. The different was what they saw. Numbers 13v27 ‘ they gave Moses this account; we went into the Land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey.28 but the people we saw are of great size and we seem in our own eyes as grasshoppers but Joshua and Caleb saw the God of possibilities and said in v30 ‘… let us go at once and take possession of the Land for with God we are well able’ the result was that those who saw impossibility all died in the wilderness and never entered the promised Land while those who saw God succeeded in fulfilling God’s mandate for their live and possessed the promise Land. The scripture says ‘all things are possible to them that believe’ ‘Looking unto Jesus’ we see the possibility and not the otherwise. The cardinal mission of the wicked is distracting the believers from the God of all possibility, so we should guide ourselves from those things that distracts. But could there be any who have been distracted, as we cried to the Lord, He will surely deliver.
So let’s look unto Him who is the author and finisher of our faith.
6.      Running with hope, enduring the cross and despising the shame: to every race there is price, to every battle there is a crown.’ … for the joy that was set before him, he endure the cross and despising its shame’. Every cross has its emblem of shame, but for the joy set before it, the grace to endure is available! What could constitute shame in this heavenly race? In Romans 1v16, Paul says ‘ I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, because it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believed’. Paul was a lawyer, one of the scribe of the Jew, he has every reason to be ashamed of the gospel having been in opposition before now. Jesus says in mark 9v23,26 ‘… whosever want to be my disciple must … take up the cross...whosever is shamed of me and my word…’ to be ashamed of a course is to feel humiliated and not be proud to defend that course. In this case from the eye of the world it is shame to associate with the gospel. But believers need not be ashamed since the gospel is the hope of salvation for humanity. So we should run with hope.
7.      The reward; the crown: to every cross there is a crown. ‘… sat down at right-hand of the throne of God. To confirm this, Stephen while he was surrounded by his accusers, he look up steadfastly to heaven and the Lord standing at the right of His Father’s throne. Acts 7v55,56 ‘ Stephen full of Holy Ghost look up to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right of God. He said look I saw the heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right of God’ Halleluiah! The Lord Himself confirm this in revelation 22v12.’ Behold I AM coming soon and my reward is with me to give to everyone according as his reward shall be’ this is a consolation to pilgrims that our labor in the Lord is never in vain for our rewarder is faithful.

THE JUST SHALL LIVED BY FAITH
INTRODUCTION
Now the just shall live by faith… Habakkuk 2:4b. Faith is one the cardinal pillar in our Christian-believer. Now faith is the substance of things hope for; the evidence of things not seen. Heb 1:1. Faith is a substance; is evidence, for without faith it is impossible to please God; for he that cometh to God must believe that HE is and that HE is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Faith is evidence that we know God, for without which a believer cannot attract God’s present and reward to his/her life. Can I say this for emphasis; a new believer is as strong as the old believer so long as both have faith. The old believer is as weak as the new believer if they lost their ground of faith.
From the time a believer surrendered his life to Christ, he has been called into a race. Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great cloud of witness of faith, let us lay aside every weight… Believers should understand that we are in a world full of mires of problems and challenges; they are the sins that easily beset us, trying to pull us from faith. The bible says that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one! 1JOHN 5:19. Therefore put-on the shield of faith that we may withstand the entire fairy dart of the evil one! Eph 6:16.
HERE ARE SOME NUGGETS OF FAITH AS A BELIEVER
1.   We only pleased God in faith. For without faith it is impossible to pleased God… Heb 1:1.  God is not moved by our tears and circumstances but by our faith.
2.     We overcome by faith. Whoever is born of God overcometh the world for this is the victory that overcomes: our faith 1 John 5:4. Circustances are there to pull us down but by faith shall we overcome.

3.   Faith is trusting God when the wind is contrary: for the just shall live by faith Hab2:4b. Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls yet will I rejoice in the Lord. The wind was contrary against Abraham yet he staggered not in faith, giving glory to God.

4.   Faith is receiving your request even before you see it. Jesus told his followers that whenever we ask in faith let us believe we have and is shall be done unto us.

5.   Faith is precedence to miracle. Jesus told the blind bartimeous ‘thy faith has healed you’. For us to have our miracle in terms of salvation, healing, breakthrough, etc. There is need to exercise it in faith.
For without faith it is impossible to pleased God.
